Nelson Beato was born on October 8, 1986 in Orange County, California. His love of music and desire to perform emerged early after listening to soul-stirring artists like Donnie Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Babyface, Eric Benet, and Daryl Coley. It only took a few solo performances in church before he knew he was meant to be a professional musician. For this reason, he continued his education at the musically acclaimed Oakwood University; the same institution that counts Mervyn Warren, Brian McKnight, Take 6, Virtue, and members of Naturally 7 among its alumni. While earning a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing with a Minor in Vocal Performance & Pedagogy, Nelson took the time he needed to develop his craft and business savvy. The experience also developed his patience, tenacity, and commitment to his faith.
After graduating from college in 2008, Nelson returned to Los Angeles on a mission to become a professional singer, songwriter, and background vocalist performing on stage with the industry’s top entertainers and musicians. He was equipped with talent, education, drive, and humility. He was ready to pursue excellence, not stardom, and he was ready to realize his dreams. It was his time.
It’s only been four years and Nelson’s success already exceeds his expectations. His resume includes appearances on “Ellen,” “The Today Show,” “KTLA,” “American Idol,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”, “America’s Got Talent”, “X Factor”, “Dancing with the Stars”, and NBC’s “Sing-Off.” His voice can be heard on Josh Groban, Michael Bublé, Bebe Winans, and a host of other albums. He’s been featured McDonald’s, Folgers, T-Mobile, AT&T, American Idol, and Hertz Rental Cars commercials and has shared the stage with artists like Patti LaBelle, Stevie Wonder, Adele, Katy Perry, Mary J. Blige, Seal, Barbra Streisand, Queen Latifah, Joe Cocker, R. Kelly, Tyrese, Tank, Fantasia Barrino, Garth Brooks, Nick Jonas, Demi Lovato, Leann Rimes, and Jason Derulo. He was recurring on the hit Fox shows “Glee” and “Mobbed”. And he’s just getting started.
